palimpseste (this used to belong to... but then they disappeared)

site-specific video installation
in collaboration with Onirisme Collectif for Nuit Blanche, Paris, 2017

we were invited by Nuit Blanche to occupy Gymnase Curial, a public gymnasium, throughout an entire night. mattresses were laid out in a circle in the center of the room while each artist presented a piece of work to collectively fill one sleep cycle (90 minutes).

"palimpseste" is a video installation that subtitles the space as if it were a film. while the public lays on the mattresses, the text describes a group of women living under captivity in a gymnasium and their relationship to their setting, in direct echo with the spectateurs surroundings. with each repetition of a line, words begin to disappear, as do the women in Margaret Atwood's original book The Handmaid's Tale, from which the sentences were taken.

video projection

following "palimpseste", "sleepers" is a constantly fading projection of a woman sleeping inside Tokyo's public train. like a filmed painting, her face half-covered by a towel and the surrounding elements create a dream-like, lethargic landscape that appears and disappears throughout the night, over the surface of a white bedsheet.
